If an Implementation Engineer installs a SAS card in Slot 0, the system may fail to recognize the shelves correctly or may flag a configuration error, as the Purity software expects backend expansion traffic to route through the bus associated with Slot 1. Therefore, for SAS expansion cards, Slot 1 is the mandatory location.

The management ports (typically eth0 and eth1 on the controllers) are the dedicated interfaces for administrative access to the FlashArray. They host the Purity GUI (Graphical User Interface), the CLI (Command Line Interface) via SSH, and the REST API endpoints.

If the customer's network team has failed to provision or patch these ports:

The customer will be unable to log in to the array.There is no other standard path for administration.

While the arraycantechnically serve data over Fibre Channel or iSCSI (if those data ports are connected), the array cannot be managed, monitored, or configured.

The Implementation Engineer can perform the initial setup using the direct serial console connection, but handing over a functional system to the customer requires functioning management networking. Without it, the customer is locked out of the dashboard and cannot perform day-to-day operations.
