According to the Citrix documentation1, the Least Response Time method uses the response time of the monitor probes to determine the best service. However, this method requires that a monitor is bound to each service and that the monitor response times are recorded. Therefore, the virtual server uses the Round Robin method until each bound service has been probed by the monitor at least once. This mode is called startup round robin mode2.

Application Lingering allows applications to stay open for a configurable amount of time after a user closes them, which can reduce application launch times in subsequent sessions.

To monitor running published applications, Citrix administrators use Broker PowerShell cmdlets. Citrix documentation defines the role of the following:

This cmdlet returns active instances of published applications, including:

Which application is running

Which user is running it

Which session it belongs to

Launch time and instance metadata

This is the only cmdlet dedicated to reporting per-application instance activity.

Why the others are incorrect:

Get-BrokerApplication:Returns application configuration, not active app sessions.

Get-BrokerSession:Returns session details (user, endpoint, VDA, etc.) but does not list individual running application instances.

Get-BrokerSessionPreLaunch:Only shows information about pre-launch sessions, not active applications.

 According to the Citrix documentation1, “Cloud Connectors are the communication channel between your resource location and Citrix Cloud. They enable cloud management without requiring any complex networking or infrastructure configuration such as VPNs or IPsec tunnels. Resource locations contain the resources you want to make available to your subscribers, such as applications and desktops. Each resource location requires at least one Cloud Connector to communicate with Citrix Cloud.” Therefore, the VDA machines should communicate with a Cloud Connector that is located in the on-premises location in order to become registered with the Site.
