Patient Validation is a protective step taken during the filing process for all incoming patient-based interfaces . Whether the interface is handling admissions (ADT), clinical results (ORU), or pharmacy orders (RDE), the system must verify that the patient identified by the ID matches the demographic data in the message before any data is written to Chronicles.

The Error Code is a unique identifier assigned to a specific type of failure (e.g., " Patient Not Found " ). Because every instance of that specific failure across multiple messages will share the same code, it serves as the primary property for grouping errors to identify systemic issues or root causes.

The Message Companion relies on a successful link between a message and a specific record (like a Patient or Encounter). If a message encounters a failure error during processing (e.g., a critical identification error), Bridges may be unable to definitively link that message to the patient record in Chronicles. Because the link is missing, the message will not appear in tools like the Message Companion that filter specifically by that patient ' s ID.

To efficiently manage investigation documentation, Epic provides the Error Steps Copy Utility within the Bridges Text-based menus. This utility allows administrators to take a set of resolution steps defined for one error/interface and copy them to others, preventing the need for manual duplicate entry.
