To enable the Domino Attachment and Object Service (DAOS) , an administrator must first enable it in the Server document (under the DAOS tab) by specifying a base path and the minimum attachment size. Once the server-level setting is active, the administrator must then enable DAOS on individual databases and run the compact -c -daos on command. This process converts the internal database structure to move attachments into the DAOS repository.

The registration process automates the creation of the user's digital identity in the Domino domain. This includes adding a Person document to the Domino Directory (names.nsf) to store the user's configuration and public key, and generating a Notes ID file , which is the secure file containing the user's private key used for authentication.

HCL Domino 12 supports multiple deployment methods to suit different server environments. The Graphical install is the traditional wizard-based method used for manual setups. For automated deployments or installations on servers without a graphical user interface (GUI), the Silent install allows administrators to use a response file to provide configuration parameters without interactive prompts.

To verify which policies are currently governing a specific user, an administrator checks the Policies tab within that user’s Person document in the Domino Directory. This tab displays the "Effective Policy," which is the result of all Organizational and Explicit policies assigned to that individual. This is the definitive location to see which administrative rules are being pushed to the user's client and mail file.
